Specialists from Narayana Hospital, Gurugram, led by Dr. Rachit Saxena, performed life-saving open-heart surgery
Girl faced life-threatening risks due to a congenital heart defect (Ventricular Septal Defect)
A 4-year-old girl battling between life and death was given a new lease on life by the health experts at Narayana Hospital, Gurugram, through a complex open-heart surgery. The girl, a resident of Rudrapur, was born with a hole in her heart (Ventricular Septal Defect), putting her life at constant risk.
Her parents had been tirelessly searching for treatment when a local doctor in Rudrapur referred them to Narayana Hospital, Gurugram. There, the hospital’s specialists successfully treated the child through an intricate surgery.
Dr. Rachit Saxena explained that when the girl was brought to the hospital, initial investigations revealed that open-heart surgery was necessary to repair the ventricular septal defect. However, the family’s financial condition was not good, so Narayana Hospital, Gurugram, provided full financial support for the treatment. The child had significant difficulty breathing and had developed respiratory infections that required antibiotics.
Without surgery, this condition typically becomes untreatable by the age of 5-8, and most children with it do not survive beyond 15-18 years. The surgery, which lasted 5-6 hours, involved closing the ventricular septal defect and was successfully completed. After surgery, the patient was kept on a ventilator and monitored in the ICU for three days. She has now fully recovered.
Expressing their happiness, the girl’s parents shared that they had exhausted all options, running from one hospital to another for treatment, but to no avail. Fortunately, they met Dr. Rashmi Xavier, a senior cardiologist at Katyayani Medical Centre, Rudrapur, who identified the condition and referred them to Dr. Rachit Saxena at Narayana Hospital, Gurugram. Despite their financial challenges, Narayana Hospital extended complete support, and the child was finally cured. The parents expressed their gratitude to the health experts at Narayana Hospital, Gurugram, for giving their child a new life.
